Wednesday, April 15: NEUVILLE-SUR-VANNE – Cinema: “Underground.” At 7:30 p.m. at the community center. April 15 is Canadian Cinema Day. To mark the occasion, the Paul Chomedey Committee of Maisonneuve invites you to a screening of the film “Underground” by director Sophie Dupuis. Sophie Dupuis, from a family that worked in the Val d’Or mines, immerses herself in a world she knows well. Her story is less a disaster film than an intimate drama, despite a tense final section set underground. More than the earth itself, it is the wounded hearts of her characters, navigating a masculine environment, that are explored in a plot enhanced by precise direction and impeccable performances. To make this film, she visited mines, met miners, and examined all aspects of mining, including the work of mine rescuers. Filming took place in two active gold mines in the Abitibi region: a first for a Canadian film! Synopsis: “Maxime, in his twenties, works in a gold mine in a small Quebec town. Here, everyone knows each other and everyone knows the mine. Having been involved in a tragedy that nearly cost his childhood friend Julien his life, he is plagued by doubt and guilt. When a violent explosion rocks the mine, Maxime sees an opportunity for redemption: he descends into the heart of the mine with the firm intention of bringing each of his colleagues and friends back alive…” Free admission. Following the screening, we will be selling Quebec products.
