Journées Européennes du Patrimoine – Les Jardins de Bois Gérard

Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September: CHESSY-LES-PRES – On the occasion of the European Heritage Days, first open days at the Jardins de Bois Gérard. Tribute to the sculptor René PRESTAT: Come and discover and rediscover the work of the sculptor René PRESTAT in the Jardins de Bois Gérard for the occasion of the heritage days. Lazlo LICATA, multidisciplinary artist and long-time friend of René PRESTAT, has gathered in the chapel of the estate for this tribute: some representative pieces of his work, including his first sculpture, numerous extracts from the video recordings he made over the course of their sharing, several books presenting his sculptures. Botanical inventory: photo exhibition and educational mobile: Marc DOUCHIN, botanist and bryologist who has been supporting the Récits d’Avenir association for years to take care of the plant world of Bois Gérard, carried out in 2023 and 2024 the botanical inventory of the 328 wild plants present on the estate. He will exhibit his inventory and some of his photos. Jean-Pierre LEGER, photographer passionate about the animal and plant world, pillar of the associative life of Bois Gérard, will also exhibit his photos representing the wild flora present on the site. Nele ZENS, eco volunteer of the association, carried out iconographic research on the site of the INPN (National Institute for the Protection of Nature) to best illustrate these 328 plants. She designed a mobile to display this plant wealth in a fun way. The mobile was created by several eco volunteers and by people with disabilities welcomed to Bois Gérard by NAMASTE, a structure for adapted holidays. Historical fresco: 850 years of history in Bois Gérard: Research work in the archives of Troyes and Auxerre, a dive into the genealogy of families who lived for a long time in Bois Gérard, all supplemented by documents provided by friends who are passionate about history, allow us to present a first historical fresco from 1172 to today with a beautiful diversity of pieces which, we hope, can be completed over time thanks to the contribution of history enthusiasts. Visit of the Chapel: The “Chapelle “Notre-Dame des Anges” of Bois Gérard, built around 1815 by the TRUCHY family, will arouse the interest of visitors by: its architectural particularities in the respect of the golden ratio, its stone owl sculpted by René PRESTAT in the alcove located above the door, its stained glass windows made by the Loire workshop of Chartres, designed by Riccardo LICATA, visual artist, creator of the mosaic class of the Beaux-Arts of Paris, its geobiological positioning cleverly studied. Visit of the Dovecote: With its thousand dovecotes and its remarkable framework, the Dovecote of Bois Gérard deserves to be visited. Referenced in the dovecotes of the Aube, it is usually closed to the public. During the Heritage Days, you will have plenty of time to discover its architecture, its history and a multitude of interesting information on dovecotes. Saturday of 2pm to 6pm, Sunday from 2pm to 6pm, Places limited to 25 people per visit.
