The 30th May at 3.00PM

Commémoration du centenaire du Comité Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve

Saturday, May 30: NEUVILLE-SUR-VANNE – Commemoration of the centenary of the Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve Committee. From 3 p.m. On May 30, despite its much younger appearance, the Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve Committee will celebrate its centenary. It was indeed on May 30, 1926, that the first major Franco-Quebec gathering in the Aube region took place in Neuville-sur-Vanne, at the initiative of the fledgling Committee led by Artémise and Eugène Raby. They brought together Canadians and residents of the Aube for a large gathering to celebrate the memory of the co-founder of Montreal, whose baptismal certificate had recently been discovered, revealing that the founder of Montreal was born in Neuville-sur-Vanne and not in Troyes, as was then believed. During this event, the church’s dilapidated state touched our cousins across the Atlantic, particularly the Montreal Historical Society and the Canadian Students’ Circle of Paris. They launched a major fundraising campaign that enabled the building’s restoration. Since that memorable date, Neuville-sur-Vanne and the Paul Chomedey de Maisonneuve Committee have been committed to maintaining ties with Quebec. At 3:00 p.m., the unveiling of the “Artémise” champagne vintage. At 6:00 p.m., the concert by the Drums and Brass Bands of New France.
