From August 5th to September 30th: CHAOURCE – “Black and White” Exhibition by Virginie Marin-Leportier. In the tourist office. Virginie Marin-Leportier has been working with stoneware for over 20 years in her studio located a few kilometers from Chaource in Villiers-le-Bois. She exhibits in Paris and throughout France, primarily in the Aube and Yonne departments. “Starting with utilitarian forms, my hands have gradually moved towards more graphic pieces; I like to work on series, trying to achieve a sense of simplicity.” Raku firing* allows for a play on surface variations that embrace the fire; randomness and the impossibility of exact reproduction are integral to the creative process. Alongside this technique, she works with high-temperature fired stoneware. *A firing technique of Korean origin involving removing ceramics at the glaze’s melting point (here, 960-980°C) and placing them in smoking chambers. The glaze then crackles, the clay becomes carbon-rich, and the process is fixed when the object is immersed in water. Free entry to the Tourist Office during opening hours.
