Friday, September 18: VAREILLES (89) – Documentary: The Taste of Discussion. At 8:30 pm at the Maquis de Vareilles. “What became of the 2019 Grievance Books, the result of the largest citizen consultation since 1945? How can they be accessed? By whom, how, and to what extent have they been used? What do they tell us about rural France today? And about the Yonne department in particular, where we explored the departmental archives. The documentary “Grievances” by Hélène Desplanques recounts a mayor’s fight against the Élysée Palace for access to these citizen-generated materials, which were temporarily confiscated. Violaine Delteil and Pierre Lénel will lead the discussion and present what the archives of the Yonne, Creuse, Gironde, and Aude departments (the latter made public by the department itself) can tell us.” What uses of such a consultation could nourish—rather than harm—democracy? With Violaine Delteil, Senior Lecturer in Socio-Economics at Sorbonne Nouvelle University, and Pierre Lenel, sociologist of work and actor (Compagnie Naje, Theatre of the Oppressed).
